For more than 100 years, the St. John’s Cadet Corps Leadership Program has forged young men and women into leaders. This values-based leadership program is grounded in our Lasallian mission, inspired by tradition, and focused on the importance of leadership and service.
The Four Pillars:
Leadership, Cadet Culture, Character, Health and Wellness
The four pillars of the program are designed to engage and develop the whole student. This comprehensive approach helps cadets achieve balance and depth in their overall development, allowing them to become more effective leaders.
At its core, leadership involves influencing others to accomplish a goal. The Cadet Corps teaches students leadership principles and how to positively lead themselves and others. The program progresses and cadets earn more responsibility in each grade.
Leadership, The Four Pillars
The structure of the program builds on the rich history of the Cadet Corps and teaches discipline, accountability, resilience, and citizenship, while providing cadets opportunities to practice leadership.
Cadet Culture, The Four Pillars
Students will understand the importance of honesty, personal courage, and selflessness, and how they impact one’s ability to lead. The Cadet Corps builds character by providing service opportunities and inspiring cadets to choose the harder right over the easier wrong.
Character, The Four Pillars
Effective leaders are mentally and physically healthy and have meaningful relationships in their lives. The Cadet Corps provides opportunities for cadets to develop their physical health while also learning about important wellness concepts in the classroom.

A LEGACY OF LEADERSHIP
BEYOND ST. JOHN'S
Graduates from the Cadet Corps Leadership Program have a distinct advantage when applying for college, service academies, and reserve officer training corps (ROTC) programs, because of the unique nature of the classroom instruction and leadership experience provided in the cross grade–level program. Cadets learn and practice leadership, making them more well-rounded students.

CURRICULUM & ACTIVITIES
The Cadet Corps Curriculum provides students with a strong foundation in the principles and concepts of leadership, putting lessons into practice through Cadet Corps activities that develop leadership skills. Knowledge and experience are further enhanced through mentorship by experienced faculty, peers, and experts in the field, allowing the time and space necessary to develop each student's leadership journey.
Freshmen focus on developing a greater sense of self. In addition to self awareness, they learn about other important concepts such as emotional intelligence, authenticity, time management, and the roles each one plays in leadership.
Building on the freshman curriculum, sophomores apply the leadership principles they’ve studied by mentoring a cadet freshman and serving as a team leader. Leadership concepts like humility, communication, and motivation are taught in the classroom and applied in a team environment.
Continuing the study of leadership, juniors analyze the concepts of servant leadership and apply it in larger groups of cadets. Through the lens of military history, they develop leadership skills at the team level and use them to lead at higher levels.
Cadet seniors are officers and the leaders of the Corps. As cadet officers, they directly plan and lead all Cadet Corps activities. These leadership roles further develop decision making, communication, and team building skills. Cadet seniors also study U.S. National Security and Personal Finance with a focus on preparing them for college and beyond.
