On Feb. 7, Steve Chaikin, former prosecutor for the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, spoke with seniors on behalf of Speak Up Save a Life.

The outreach program was designed to educate and increase awareness about the opioid/prescription drug epidemic and to introduce the new Good Samaritan Law which provides immunity for 911 callers during medical emergencies. Students also heard from Jennifer and Jeff Pissara ’88—who lost their son in 2020 to a fentanyl overdose from a non-prescription Xanax he took only once—and from recovering addict Jennifer Jeffrey Nicholson, who is now the Academy & Community Relations Director at the Phoenix Recovery Academy in Frederick, MD. Thank you to our generous guests and to Chris Magnolia ’88 who made the initial introduction to Speak Up Save a Life.
