St. John’s College High School welcomes Thomas Bagwill as the new Vice President for Advancement.
Tom is an experienced director of institutional advancement with a demonstrated history of working in education. A proud 1980 graduate of St. Paul’s School, a Lasallian high school in Covington, LA, Tom went on to earn his degree in broadcast journalism from Loyola University in New Orleans. After moving to the nation’s capital in 1987, he served as press secretary to Mississippi congressman Trent Lott, spending one year in the U.S. House of Representatives and two years in the U.S. Senate.
Prior to his work in advancement, Tom was an Emmy award–winning broadcast journalist for WGNO-TV, the ABC affiliate in New Orleans. He also earned numerous first-place New Orleans Press Club awards for his writing and reporting, as well as a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award. He later spent three years as development director at the Christian Brothers Foundation, which provided financial assistance to Christian Brothers for post-graduate education and retirement.
For the past twelve years, Tom served as the director of institutional advancement at Jesuit High School, the market leader in secondary education in New Orleans, founded in 1847. Tom and his wife Dana relocated to the DC area this summer and have three adult children who reside in New Orleans.
St. John’s is fortunate to have such an experienced leader join our community. As a graduate of a Lasallian school, Tom is passionate about our Catholic/Lasallian mission and understands the impact his work will have for our students, alumni, and the future of SJC.
