On Sept. 17, St. John’s honored students and teachers for their achievements during the 2022–2023 school year at the annual Academic Convocation.
Each September, St. John’s recognizes current sophomores, juniors, and seniors for their academic success during the previous school year. For the 2022–2023 year, 487 students were awarded a certificate of Achievement with Distinction for earning a 3.6 unweighted GPA with no grade lower than a B. Next, St. John’s academic departments presented individual awards to outstanding students in each class, and 143 students were recognized with the San Miguel Febres Cordero Award for earning straight As last year.
During the evening, St. John’s Archbishop Hannan Chapter of the National Honor Society welcomed 205 new members to its ranks, and faculty members Linda Nguyen, Colleen Gannon, Connor Bliss, and Stephen Salkeld spoke about the society’s four pillars: leadership, scholarship, service, and character. In addition, 11 seniors received honors from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
Two educators were also recognized at this gathering. St. John’s faculty selected science teacher Connor Bliss and Benilde teacher Jeanne Vosseller as the recipients of the Gasser Award, which is presented annually to two teachers who serve as Christian role models for the students and who are committed to the school’s philosophy and excellence in teaching.
Congratulations to this year’s honorees!
