George Contreras '08 is native to the DMV area and a St. John’s graduate. He began his rugby career at SJC in 2005, where he developed his love and passion for the sport. After graduating, Contreras continued playing for various rugby clubs while attending UMUC, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in computer and information science. His playing career ended with the Potomac Exiles after several successful seasons.

In 2012, St. John’s reached out to Contreras to join SJC’s rugby program as assistant coach. He most recently served as the JV boys’ coach and the varsity assistant coach. In addition to coaching at SJC, he coached at nearby Catholic University, where he enjoyed success on the pitch for many seasons, which include back-to-back trips to the final four.

Contreras “is honored to witness classes grow from eager, first-time players to confident graduates who take their passion for rugby to their respective universities and beyond.” He is proud to lead the next generation of Cadets as head coach of the SJC boys’ rugby team.
