A recent graduate of the Ohio State University, Audrey Murphy joins St. John’s as the girls’ varsity crew coach this spring. A four-year member of the OSU D1 women’s rowing team, she coxed the first varsity eight to an 11th-place finish at the NCAA championships in 2024 and supported the team’s sixth-place NCAA finish in 2021.

Off the water, Coach Murphy has been recognized as a distinguished scholar, being named an Academic All-Big Ten and Ohio State Scholar Athlete (2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024) and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2024. She was also named a 2024 Scholar Athlete by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association.

Coach Murphy was a competitive student-athlete in high school (cross country, track & field, and soccer) and was valedictorian of her graduating class. She’s an aspiring physical therapist with a passion for understanding human physiology and helping athletes maximize their potential.

Coach Murphy shared, "I am eager to join the St. John's community to coach the varsity girls. The opportunity to work alongside such dedicated students and staff is an honor, and I look forward to seeing our growth on and off the water. I'm excited to contribute to the tradition of excellence exemplified by the St. John’s Cadets and am passionate about continuing to build the culture and reputation of SJC Crew."

Head Coach Ryan Gillis adds, “Coach Murphy’s perspective as an accomplished student-athlete and scholar is beyond impressive. I believe that Audrey’s input will provide valuable insight for our Cadets as they continue to strengthen their rowing prowess and support the continued growth of our team!”
